18 injured, one dead in multi-vehicle accident on William Nicol Drive

BRYANSTON - There has been a multi-vehicle accident at the corner of William Nicol Drive and Wedgewood Link in Bryanston.

According to Wayne Minnaar, spokesperson for Metro Police, a taxi that was transporting passengers collided with a car that was turning into William Nicol Drive and then overturned. The same taxi collided with three other cars, killing the taxi driver and injuring 18 others. The exact cause is still being investigated.

According to a representative from Emer-G-Med the taxi had been speeding down the emergency lane on William Nicol Drive when it rear ended a Toyota Yaris which was turning into William Nicol Drive from Wedgewood Link.

Another taxi driver on the scene, who knew the driver who was killed, said the deceased had only been working as a taxi driver for a week.

The traffic going towards Fourways on William Nicol Drive is being diverted.

Earlier on 25 May there was also a taxi accident on Hood Road in Rosebank.

According to Emer-G-Med the accident involved a taxi and four cars.

In total, 18 people were injured.

Two have sustained critical injuries and six people have sustained moderate injuries.

 

According to a Fourways Review reporter, who is at the scene, there are bodies lying on the ground, covered in foil.

The rest have minor injuries.

The road has been closed and there are major delays in the area.

Motorists are urged to used an alternate route.
