JRA fails on its commitment to replace guard rails

WOODMEAD - The Johannesburg Roads Agency has failed to fulfil its commitment to replace the damaged guard rail at the intersection of Pretoria Main Road and Woodmead Drive, between Kelvin and Buccleuch.

In February, Bertha Peters-Scheepers, spokesperson for the roads agency, said a new barrier would be erected on 27 February, but it has not been completed. Concerned Buccleuch resident Andrew McMurray explained, “Please note that the roads agency arrived at the end of February, dug out the damaged poles and left them there on the side of the road and removed the metal crash barriers.”

He said since the end of February, they have not seen or heard from the roads agency. “The barriers are still not replaced or repaired,” added McMurray.

Peters-Scheepers recently said the roads agency will erect new guard rails sometime between 18 and 22 May. “The roads agency apologises for the inconvenience caused to the motorists and residents by the damaged crash barrier,” added Peters-Scheepers. “We encourage residents to report similar issues as well as any other road-related issues to the roads agency for our attention.”
