Baby House benefits tenfold

FOURWAYS – An auction between two business giants has made sure that the children at The Baby House in Lonehill will have an excellent supply of nutritious food.

This took place when SuperSPAR Broadacres, during an auction at an Acorn Foundation Pro-Am Charity Golf Series event, committed to match rand for rand up to R5 000 for a bid from the floor during the auction section of the prize-giving event. CEO of Glocell and founder of the Acorn Foundation Alessandro Mariola took SuperSPAR up on their challenge and bid R5 000 to provide a grand total of R10 000.00 for the Baby House to spend on essential items at the Broadacres SuperSPAR. During the handover, Mariola said he finds it very important that as people carry on their daily lives, they find time to give back positively into their society. “It is not just the responsibility of government to change our society for the better, it is also up to us,” he said.

Founder of The Baby House, Robin Fenn, said because the home only runs off the assistance of the community and what they donate, this donation goes a long way in making sure they provide excellent care for the children. She said it translates to nearly three months of care-free provision for the children. “A lot of the kids we receive suffer from malnutrition so it is really beneficial when we get supported in this way,” said Fenn, adding that some of their cornerstones are nutrition and vitamin supplements so this will go a long way in helping them. The Baby House is a non-profit organisation that started three and half years ago. It takes in abandoned children and over the years they have been functioning, have already helped 23 children get adopted.

Although their volunteering programme is still closed at the moment on account of a sensitive case, they welcome any support by way of donations of secondhand goods or monitory donations. Fenn says the Baby House also hosts annual cake sales where the community can get involved. For more information on how to get involved contact Robin Fenn.
