UPDATE: Cedar Road buffalo is burned and buried

CHARTWELL NORTH - The female buffalo carcass that was discovered on Cedar Road in Chartwell North on 6 May has been burned and buried by The Lion Park.

According to a report by The Citizen The Lion Park had initially wanted to feed the buffalo carcass to the lions but decided to burn and bury the carcass instead.

According to Scott Simpson, operations manager for The Lion Park they will keep the buffalo’s horns and head until its owner can be located.

The water buffalo is thought to have died from injuries it sustained from falling off a truck.

The buffalo carcass was first spotted by a group of cyclists, one of whom collided with the animal, on the morning of 6 May.
