Dead buffalo found on Cedar Road

BROADACRES – A group of cyclists got a morbid surprise on the morning of 6 May when they happened upon the carcass of a water buffalo on Cedar Road.

Fourways Review journalist, Joni Tollner, was at the scene of the buffalo find and said some cyclists almost ran over it while it was lying in the middle of the road.

Someone eventually moved the buffalo to the side of the road, but the carcass could still be seen by morning commuters, many of whom stopped their vehicles to take in the extraordinary sight.

Randburg SPCA responded to the scene and representatives from Lion Park were also on hand.

According to Randburg SPCA, the buffalo is a female and possibly fell off a truck, then died from her injuries.

The buffalo’s tail was also severed by the time Randburg SPCA arrived on the scene.

Tollner said Metro police were cordoning off the scene and making sure traffic was free flowing.

In September 2013 a brown hyena was sighted wandering the streets of Johannesburg.

In April this year a German Shepherd was knocked down and killed while trying to cross the N1 highway near the Olifantsfontein offramp.
