VIDEO – UPDATE: Woman shot by armed robbers

DOUGLASDALE – It has been confirmed that the victim of the Fourways shooting, which occurred at 2pm on 1 April, was an elderly woman who had just returned from shopping at a nearby shopping centre.

The suspects allegedly followed the victim and rammed their car into the gate of her residence as it was closing, and pushed the gate off its rails. The vehicle in question was confirmed to be a white new shape VW Beetle, which was then used to flee the crime scene.

Detectives on scene confirmed that the vehicle had fake number plates.

Jewellery of an undisclosed value was forcibly taken from the woman before shots were fired, causing injury to the woman’s hand.

She was taken to Life Fourways Hospital by Emer-G-Med paramedics and is said to be in a stable condition.

1 April; 2.22pm:

DOUGLASDALE – A woman sustained a gunshot wound to the hand after an alleged hijacking attempt turned into a driveway robbery on Albatross Drive.

The incident occurred at about 2pm on 1 April when three armed men followed the woman into her driveway and proceeded to rob her of her jewellery and other undisclosed valuables.

“Shots were fired, injuring the woman’s hand,” confirmed Emer-G-Med spokesperson, Danielle Dooley. “She was treated on the scene by Emer-G-Med staff before being taken to Life Fourways Hospital where she is currently under advanced life support care.”

The woman is said to be in a stable condition.
