Last but certainly not least

BRYANSTON - The smallest of his litter and the last one left without a home, Jasper is a 10-week-old rescue puppy with a wish to find a family to love him forever.

Jasper was rescued from Lethlabile township, outside Brits. His mother had given birth, but was not lactating. The Wags and Whiskers rescue organisation, based in Bryanston, was contacted about the issue and put out an alert on their social media platforms.

Two days later, two of their supporters drove an hour and a half outside of Joburg to fetch the mother and her puppies. Sadly, the mother had already died by the time they arrived, but there was no time to lament because the five little puppies had not had a thing to eat or drink since they were born.

They were bottle-fed every day and soon all five puppies went into fostercare with Randburg resident, Tami Gower-Moolman. All of the puppies have now been adopted, except for one. Jasper is the smallest of all the pups because he was the last to be born and his mother’s body was already very weakened. He is extremely affectionate and is looking for a forever home.

Wags and Whiskers was started in October last year by a group of four young women with a passion for animal welfare. In just six months, the organisation has managed to rescue 70 animals. Their main goal is to have their own shelter and rehabilitation centre for abused and unwanted animals, but until then they continue to foster and care for animals at their homes in Fourways.

Apart from Jasper, the organisation also has another last-born wonder named Mikey. Mikey the kitten was rescued with his mom and four siblings. Mikey’s mother Majesty was dumped due to the fact that she was always falling pregnant. The organisation has managed to home all Mikey’s siblings, but he is still waiting for his forever home.
