Five men and one woman arrested for armed robbery

DIEPSLOOT – Police have confirmed that six people, five men and one woman, have been arrested following a house robbery which occurred on 28 March.

Warrant Officer Daniel Mavimbela of Diepsloot Police Station stated that the robbery took place in Extension 4.

“It is alleged that the men forced entry into a shack occupied by a couple,” said Mavimbela.

“Fortunately the semi-clothed woman managed to escape upon the suspects’ entry, but the man remained to face the attackers. They threatened him with a firearm and took cash, clothes, a DVD player and other valuables.”

It was stated that one of the suspects fired a shot before they made off with the stolen items.

A manhunt was launched on 29 March which resulted in a female partner of one of the suspects being arrested. One handgun was recovered along with ammunition. The hunt for the rest of the suspects resumed the following day.

“By Tuesday morning [31 March] the local police tracing team had arrested the five men aged between 20 and 33,” Mavimbela continued.

“One more handgun as well as some ammunition was recovered.”

The suspects will be charged with house robbery, possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition, and attempted murder.
