Network cable puts Lonehill on the map

LONEHILL - Residents of Lonehill will soon be living in the most technically-advanced suburb as MTN rolls out and installs a fibre broadband cable in the area.

The official launch of the programme was held at the Lonehill Park on 19 March. The programme was developed between the Lonehill Residents’ Association and the network brand. According to chairperson of the association, John Siddall, the roll out would mean putting the area on the map as well as giving the community better online and broadband service.

The high-speed network will be capable of delivering speeds of up to 100 megabytes per second and will provide residents of the area with multiple benefits including the ability to stream high definition videos and music videos, play online games, and to stream movies using a superfast network.

Thomas McMinn, the broadband infrastructure project manager for MTN, will work hands-on with the project. He believes by implanting this service in the area, it would not only bring the community together, but also boost the property value in the area adding to the economy.

He said following the blueprints of Parkhurst, who also welcomed the mass fibre programme, Lonehill will be another successful suburb.

“The infrastructure will additionally ensure that we connect close circuit TV which will add another layer of security and which will go a long way towards making Lonehill a safer place for its residents,” said Siddall.

“The first phase is expected to be completed within two months and it will be showcased to prospective customers in the area through open days and other events,” said McMinn. “The total distance of the roll out during this phase will be 7.5km and MTN will provide the infrastructure at its own cost and will maintain it during the life-span of the technology.”

Residents are welcomed to air their views and provide input regarding the fibre network cable being inducted into the area. MTN and the residents’ association will host an information session regarding the programme on 21 March at the Lonehill Shopping Centre.
