Dogs in need of loving homes

FOURWAYS – PET Empowerment in Townships (Pets) volunteers have worked tirelessly in Johannesburg townships for the past several years.

Pets provides healthcare and education to improve the lives of dogs and cats in less-privileged communities.

The organisation’s Laura Whittaker said there were three rescues who were looking for their forever homes.

Jamie, a large breed collie-cross which is about six months old was rescued from Orange Farm in January this year. Whittaker said, “This little boy was hit by a car and had a femur head replacement and pins in his leg. After weeks of cage rest and pain, finally he’s a real puppy.

“Like Jamie, Solo was rescued from a township. This beautiful, playful and social little girl is about a year old, and despite having a really rough start in life, she is always happy and willing to please.”

Whittaker said Solo was in severe pain when the organisation received her and she was treated for a bone infection in her leg.

Lastly, a very special home is needed for Ken the greyhound. Ken was brought into the organisation with a severely damaged eye that had to be removed. His eye op was a success and he was returned to his owner who was really grateful, said Whittaker.

Sadly though, it was confirmed by the vet that Ken was going blind in his remaining eye. “This boy is a stunning greyhound who needs a home that either has experience with blind dogs or committed to learning and giving him the life he deserves,” said Whittaker.

Anyone interested in adopting these dogs can contact the organisation via email.
