New problem solver at Douglasdale Police Station

DOUGLASDALE - Police Station's new head of support, Colonel Goodenough Happy Xaba, is a problem solver with years of experience.

Colonel Goodenough Happy Xaba joined the police service in 1993 and after graduating from police college, worked as a detective in Meadowlands.

In 1995, Xaba was asked to be part of the Soweto Trial Unit, where he presided over police officers’ conduct hearings. He later became part of Soweto Police Station’s management and was then promoted to provincial management. In 2006, there was horrific shooting at Kagiso Police Station, where a police officer gunned down four senior officers. Xaba was redeployed to this station to deal with the aftermath of the shooting. Xaba remained at Kagiso Police Station from 2006 until February this year when he was transferred to Douglasdale Police Station after 80 members and four senior officers were redeployed to other police stations.

“I’m always sent to stations where there’s unrest because I enjoy problem-solving,” Xaba explained. “Being part of the police means that you have to go towards a difficult situation and confront it, not run away.”

He mentioned that the biggest challenge at the Douglasdale Police Station at the moment is the lack of personnel. “Province is handling this problem and by the end of the month, we will have 90 percent of the positions at the station filled,” Xaba said.
