Pub raises money for cancer

DOUGLASDALE - A pub has managed to raise over R30 000 for cancer research.

Cancer survivor Tracy Oyston has been raising money and awareness for cancer research for the past few years. In honour of the Shaveathon phenomenon, the Gathering of the Clans Pub in Douglasdale held a spectacular gathering with local musicians and entertainers for the day.

Oysten said this was a personal endeavour and she wants to give those suffering, beating and families affected by the disease the same hope she was given.

“We do this every year, we gather everyone around and celebrate life,” she said.

Oyston added that every single cent raised will go towards the Cansa foundation and she hopes that more people will get on board and raise awareness about the disease.

She added, “This disease affects everyone, every race, age, religion, and men and women. Early detection is the key.”
