Hub secures a future for Diepsloot’s unemployed

RIVERSANDS - The Riversands Incubation Hub started the first of its classes which benefit the Diepsloot community.

The hub has partnered with Fidelity Corporate Services to offer training to previously unemployed Diepsloot residents.

The pilot programme welcomed 27 candidates for the National Certificate in General Security NQF level 3. The candidates will receive six weeks of classroom instruction before going onsite for the supervised practical aspect of the training. At this point, the candidates will be eligible to become members of the Private Security Industry Regulatory Authority. During the initial training, each candidate will receive a stipend and when they start the practical aspect of the training, they will receive a Grade D salary.

Nicola Neal, head of training and curriculum for the hub said, “We are excited to offer our first practical earn-as-you-learn programme to our candidates from the Diepsloot area in partnership with Fidelity. All candidates have been thoroughly screened and we have high hopes that they will all have a successful career in the security industry.”

Professor Willie Thorpe, head of training for Fidelity, outlined the opportunities that will open up to all candidates when they have completed their initial qualification. “This training will open the door to additional specialist training such as cash in transit, armed response or even para legal,” he said. “Fidelity has 14 accredited colleges throughout South Africa and the plan is to establish a training centre at the Riversands Incubation Hub.”

Thorpe explained that the long-term goal is to identify a suitable candidate from the pilot programme to run the proposed training centre under the auspices of Fidelity.
