Challenge to bring out the best in showjumping

JOBURG - Marion Clough, the Fourways Riding Centre owner, is delighted as the first leg of the Fédération Equestre Internationale (FEI) 2015 World Jumping Challenge will be held at the centre on 28 February and 1 March.

This two-day challenge is one for the fans as it showcases local talent at its best. Clough described the challenge as exciting and competitive as local showjumpers compete on international arena standards.

She said, “There are three main categories which jumpers can compete in, Category A being the highest ranking and then Category B and Category C with the lower rankings.”

All ages are welcome to enter the competition and are advised they will only compete in the challenge once their horses have passed a vet inspection.

She said the challenge is a true test of ability and skill, both men and women compete on equal platforms. Not only is the arena on an international level, but showjumpers can compare themselves to top riders on the FEI website.

The challenge has also brought in some exciting new sponsors to the showjumping scene. Land Rover Midrand and City Lodge have both recognised the sport’s development in the country and want to encourage the sport among the youth.

“The challenge will host showjumpers from around the country and is set to be a festival of talent and entertainment. There is no entry fee and anyone can join in the fun,” said Clough.
