Daine Klate ‘back home’ on loan to SuperSport

JOBURG - SuperSport United has acquired the services of midfielder, Daine Klate on loan from Orlando Pirates with immediate effect until the end of the current season.

SuperSport United has acquired the services of midfielder, Daine Klate on loan from Orlando Pirates until the end of the current season.

The midfielder has signed a six-month contract, and Klate and Matsatsantsa are in advanced discussions for him to sign a pre-contract with the club when his contract with the Buccaneers reaches its conclusion at the end of June.

“Daine is a very experienced player who will be a valuable asset for the team and our younger players in particular,” said SuperSport United CEO Stan Matthews.

“We’re very pleased to have him back with the club where his career started and look forward to him making a big contribution to our efforts in bringing further success to our club.”

Klate, 29, joins United after appearing in more than 100 league and cup games for Pirates. He is the most decorated domestic player having won five league titles, six cup medals, and a Caf champions league final appearance. He also represented Bafana Bafana, earning 10 caps.

As a graduate of SuperSport United’s youth academy, Klate knows the culture and inner workings of the club, and should adjust quickly to life back at Matstsantsa a Pitori.

Meanwhile, United have also signed defender Ayabulela Magqwaka from Ajax Cape Town on a six-month loan deal. The young defender will be with the club until the end of the current season.

Mainly a centre back, Magqwaka can also play at right back. Last season the 19-year-old was ever-present in the national U20 squad where he captained the side at the Confederation of Southern African Football Associations cup in Lesotho.

“I am joining a big club that has a proven record when it comes winning trophies,” said Magqwaka. “The team and fans can expect a player that has a great will to win and compete at the highest level. I see this as a great opportunity for me to revive my career and contributing positively to the success of the team.”

Matthews said Magqwaka was a highly-rated defender and to sign him from under the noses of some top clubs was amazing. “He’ll create further competition for places in our defence,” said Matthews
