Dusi marathon mock races on the Jukskei

In preparation for the Dusi from the 19-21 February, the team consisting of Andy Birkett, Kwanda Mhlophe, Lance Kime and Sbonelo Khwela took part in a two-day race hosted by Dabulamanzi Canoe Club on the Jukskei River.

Gauteng Canoe Union spokesperson Jennie Dallas said, “These four men are at the peak of their athletic careers and share multiple wins between them.” Dallas said Khwela would be a strong contender to take first place at this year’s Dusi.

Dallas said, “They are all from Kwazulu-Natal and know the Dusi waters very well which gives them an advantage.”

Canoeists will be able to compete in one more race before the Dusi. This will take place in February on the Kliprivier in Meyerton.
