UPDATE: Diepsloot land protest turns sour

DIEPSLOOT - Diepsloot police spokesperson Warrant Officer Daniel Mavimbela said rubber bullets had to be used in Ext 1 to disperse a group of squatters who were throwing stones at the police.

Mavimbela said a four-year-old boy had to receive medical treatment for an injury which he sustained on his upper body. He said this incident was being investigated.

In a separate incident, a 36-year-old man was arrested and will be charged with public violence.

He is expected to appear in the Randburg Magistrates’ Court soon.

“The situation is currently under control, though there is still tension in Extension 1 and 2,” said Mavimbela.
