FOURWAYS - THE new TLB Monster Energy Yamaha team set up its pits at the Terra Topia motocross track in Fourways on 23 January.
With sponsors, TLB Plant Hire,Yamaha and Monster Energy drink, the gathering saw the official launch of the 2015 Yamaha motocross team. This team will be competing in races and tournaments all over the world.
The team consists of Michael Kok, Sacha Naude, Caleb Tennant, Gerhard Grove, Tristan Purdon, Reid Sinnicks, Matthew Malan, Richie van der Westhuizen and Nanda Swiegers. The team manager is Laren van der Westhuizen.
The surprise signing was 26-year-old Swiegers who is the number one woman in the country. Sweigers will also represent South Africa in several rounds of the women world championships. “It is nerve-wracking to compete with the boys. I try and focus by training and staying fit,” said Sweigers. She added that she wanted to promote the sport for women.
The team welcomed back Richie van der Westhuizen after a brief retirement from the sport.
