Responsible education made fun

DIEPSLOOT- Non-profit organisation Edu Fun assists more than 1 400 pupils at Diepsloot Combined School with extra lessons and other necessities.

Edu Fun was established in 2003 to help assist pupils at the school. A volunteer at the organisation, Helen Corbishley said prior to the formation of Edu Fun, pupils were taught predominantly in Sepedi and Zulu. Pupils only received 30 minutes of English lessons a week, yet they had to read textbooks for key subjects in English.

Recognising these challenges faced by the pupils, the school invited Avril Donnelly to assist with extra-English classes for the school’s pupils.

This is when the idea to establish Edu Fun was born.

Since its inception the services offered by Edu Fun have expanded exponentially. The organisation is now providing a uniform mending service and health services to all pupils. The organisation also arranges outings, annual Christmas parties, motivational talks, and a feeding scheme, Spread a Little Love, for pupils.
