Double accident lands police officer in hospital

PAULSHOF - A Sandton police officer was seriously injured after his vehicle was knocked into while he was attending to an accident involving another police vehicle.

According to Colonel Tinus Swart of Douglasdale police, a Colonel from the Douglasdale Police Station had been driving a Douglasdale police vehicle when it was knocked into by a female driver outside the Caltex garage on Witkoppen Road on 21 January at around 7pm.

Swart said the Colonel had been on duty but was going back to the station after visiting a victim at Sunninghill hospital when the accident occurred.

Since the area where the accident took place was within Sandton police’s precinct, a Sandton police officer was called to the scene to take down the accident report.

When the Sandton police officer stopped his vehicle at the scene of the primary accident his vehicle was knocked into by a motorist driving a Toyota Corolla.

According to Swart, the Sandton police officer was seriously injured and is now in hospital.
