Meet Midrand’s young kart racer

JOBURG - Ewan Taylor, a 16-year-old from Midrand, has a bright motor sport career ahead of him, should the necessary assistance be available.

Taylor, who started racing karts only two years ago, inspired by his father Barry Taylor, said racing is in his blood. “I live to race, but I am equally dedicated to school,” said Taylor. He recently took part in an international karting event in Las Vegas, the USA’s Super Nationals XVIII Super-karts where he was exposed to other drivers such as Nelson Piquet Jnr, Scott Speed and Marco Andretti.

He added, “It was inspiring to take part in a competition with people from other parts of the world, including recognised Indy Car and Nascar drivers. It exposed me to greater heights of my passion.” Taylor ended up sixth quickest with the quickest time in sector two in his class; with average age of drivers being 24.

He said he is especially thankful to his parents and school for the support. “My sport of choice is quite expensive and my family have given their all to support me financially and otherwise. I am thankful to teachers and pupils at my school at St Albans College who assisted with my schedule so that my education is not affected while away.”

Taylor’s mother, Sharon Taylor said the family is fully behind her son. “We are so proud of him and will continue to support his racing dream. He has amazing potential.”

Christine Moss, from Energy Corse racing kart brand in Africa, said, “Taylor he is very talented and has great potential.” Moss said in the kart event in Las Vegas, “We threw him in the deep end and, inspite of a clutch problem on his kart, he had a great learning experience.”

Taylor, who usually races at Swartkops, is looking for sponsorship to take his racing dreams further. He said, “I have been scouted by a top Italian GP2, GP3 and F4 driver manager and the Porsche Super Cup Momo team, but I still require a sponsor.”

If you would like to sponsor Taylor, please contact his mother Sharon Taylor on 083 629 7199.
