Brother and sister dogs look for a home

FOURWAYS – Pet Empowerment in Townships (Pets) is not an animal shelter, but a countrywide organisation working to create loving homes for pets in the communities where they belong.

Luara Whittaker of the organisation explained there are two dogs looking for homes. “Turbo is a brown male and Talynn is a black female. They are a brother and sister pair that were rescued in Orange Farm township while searching for food next to a busy road,” she said. The siblings are eight months old and are looking for a home together. “They love to play and are great with other dogs. They have been in foster care for three months now and would love to find a forever home,” added Whittaker. Anyone interested in adopting should visit the organisation’s website.

Pets is based in Fourways and its volunteers have worked tirelessly in Johannesburg townships for the last several years, providing healthcare and education to improve the lives of dogs and cats in less-privileged communities. The organisation runs bi-monthly ‘spayathons’, sterilising 50 township dogs, as well as vaccinating and de-worming a further 350 animals. Participating owners are given a bag of dog food to help them take care of their pets at home.
