How to avoid animal negligence over the festive season

FURWAYS - The December period sees the highest influx of abandoned and stray animals to animal welfare organisations.

The SPCA Sandton general manager Candice Scorer said, “A general increase in animal cruelty is usually on the rise [in this period]. We see a lot of firework related injuries.” Fourways residents should ensure safety precautions before leaving for their respective holiday destinations to safeguard their animals to prevent them from suffering a similar fate.

Scorer said some people could not afford to board there pets at kennels, but there were several organisations that offered animal boarding. House sitters and neighbours could also look after the pets of owners who were away. The SPCA encourages members of the public to report any cruelty to animals which can be don anonymously.
