Steyn City delivers happiness

DIEPSLOOT - Steyn City Properties held its annual Delivering Happiness to Diepsloot Christmas drive on 24 November.

Once again the organisation put smiles on the faces of thousands of school children in the neighbouring community of Diepsloot.

The drive forms part of Steyn City’s commitment to not only enhance the lives of its future residents, but to also form meaningful partnerships with surrounding communities to ensure that the development has far reaching, positive effects for everyone.

The Delivering Happiness to Diepsloot convoy included special guests such as Father Christmas and his elves, with the added appeal of celebrity hosts Maps Maponyane and Thomas Msengana. Together they drove through the streets of Diepsloot on an open top, double-decker bus to the festive sounds of Christmas carols.

Steyn City funded the event and provided backpacks for each school pupil. A range of corporate sponsors came to the party to ensure that the children in attendance received a top quality gift. These include Steyn City’s sister company Auto and General, which donated a large portion of the funds necessary to host the event.

Eskom additionally donated 9 000 pencil kits and 1 000 iconic educational Rubik’s Cubes puzzles, while leading logistics operator Super Group, contributed the funds to purchase goodies for each of the backpacks.

Paradise Bend Primary School was one of the many schools visited on the day . Class sizes at the school average around 60 pupils per class and many pupils come to school hungry while others don’t have school uniforms, or are at the mercy of violent family situations or orphans.

Deputy Principal Josiah Mashishi said, “It is so important to make pupils like ours, who come from disadvantaged backgrounds, feel special and part of the celebration at Christmas time.”

Steyn City CEO Giuseppe Plumari said, “Our delivering to Diepsloot initiative has become a highlight on our calendar of annual activities. This stems from the realisation that we will never be truly successful in our mission of creating a uniquely South African city, if we don’t contribute to the wellbeing of our neighbours.”
