Salon gives back

FOURWAYS - Hair Network salon in Fourways Mall has used the festive season to give back to the community through an ingenious initiative.

Salon owner Terry Berchowitz decided to partner up with the Witkoppen Health and Welfare Centre, by doing a Christmas tree drive. “With the help of the centre, 318 children will be graciously affected through the drive. In all our salons there is a Christmas tree, with name tags and a short bio of the children,” said Berchowitz. The tags are offered to clients to take, and they can donate a gift for a child.

Each tag has the name, age, sex and some background information about the child. Berchowitz states it gives a personal touch, it allows us to connect and understand the person rather than just donating money and not knowing who and where it is going to.

“It is an unselfish gift you can give a child,” she added.

Berchowitz and her staff would like the public to join in this initiative. Anyone can come into the salon and pick a tag off the tree. She added the public can also donate a R100 and choose a child to sponsor and the salon will buy necessary goods using this donation. Not only have they managed to reach 200 children, as a salon they have also donated 800 aqueous body creams and have started a food drive for the festive season.
