A taste of India with a master chef

MONTECASINO - The Indian diaspora is taking over Montecasino for the Shades of India festival.

Shades of India will take place from 28 to 30 November, but to kick off the festivities, Montecasino has been transformed into the set of a Bollywood movie. Lotus flowers sit atop the indoor water fountain and adorned elephant ornaments watch silently as people enter the casino. To celebrate the beauty and diversity of India, Masterchef winner, Deena Naidoo, hosted an Indian tasting experience at his restaurant, Aarya.

Naidoo served up the best India had to offer to media and celebrity guests. The exquisite menu started with a tandoori prawn salad with tandoori spiced prawns atop fresh, luscious salad leaves, rosa tomatoes, radish and Danish feta. Diners were spoiled for choice when the mains were served. There was Naidoo’s prolific butter chicken, Durban prawn curry and a delish fish curry made with Norwegian salmon.

Vegetarians had the option of paneer curry or a curry made with a fish substitute made from soya. Dessert is always the best part of the meal, and Naidoo did not disappoint with the traditional soji made with cream and semolina. There was also Bombay crush, a milkshake-like drink made with rose syrup, milk, ice-cream and sabja seeds, more commonly known as the seeds of the basil plant.
