Residents oppose rave

DIEPSLOOT- The Space Ibiza outdoor rave festival has been cancelled after it was opposed by the Glenferness and Kyalami residents associations, and Greater Kyalami Conservancy.

The festival was supposed to take place on 29 November at the the Diepsloot Skills Hub, also known as The Riversands Incubation Hub.

A petition was drawn-up by the associations and included signatures of residents in Lonehill, Diepsloot and Sun Valley.

The event came to the conservancy’s attention when it was advertised on Facebook and on radio according to chairperson Kristen Kalleson.

Kalleson said the zoning of the property was for educational purposes and was not allowed to be used for large scale concerts or festivals.

Century Properties public relations officer, Anne Vincent said, “The Riversands Incubation Hub is zoned for education and ancillary activities. “We need to showcase the work of our small, medium enterprises and entrepreneurs and so the state of the art facilities will be used appropriately to ensure our small businesses get the best exposure they can.”

Kallessen added. “No application for the event had as yet been submitted to the Joint Organising Committee. The city’s land use department confirmed that they did not support the event because of the zoning of the property.”

Last year the Ramfest festival was held on the property which disturbed the peace for many residents in surrounding areas and litter was found on the site two weeks after the event.

Should the development hub be used for commercial events like rave festivals? Post you comments on the Fourways Review Facebook page.
