Witkoppen will be driveable before holidays

PAULSHOF - The Witkoppen Road upgrade is still a source of frustration for motorists, yet the contractors working on the road insist the upgrade is on track.

Vuyisa Ngxonono of Phakama Civils and Maintenance, the contractors working on the upgrade, said construction is on track to be completed by March next year.

Many residents have questioned whether the upgrade will also include the Braamfontein Spruit bridge which links Paulshof to Sunninghill. Ngxonono confirmed the bridge was never part of the original plan for the upgrade and will definitely not be upgraded during this phase of construction.

Work on the Witkoppen upgrade will come to a halt during December when construction businesses are required to shut down for the annual builders’ holiday. Ngxonono said the company and labourers would be taking their Christmas leave from 12 December to the first week of January next year.

He said the company would make sure Witkoppen road was driveable during the December period. Ngxonono added that the road would be re-surfaced and all potholes would be attended to before the December break.
