Kittens mewl for good homes

DIEPSLOOT - There are three adorable six-week old kittens who are up for adoption at FourPaws animal shelter near Diepsloot.

The shelter conducts inspections in underprivileged areas around Johannesburg to offer veterinary care to abused or neglected animals. In extreme cases of abuse, animals are rescued by the shelter to be re-homed elsewhere. The shelter also runs a feral cat programme in which feral colonies are fed and cared for but all individual cats are sterilised. The shelter also rehabilitates and re-homes kittens who are abandoned or born into feral colonies.

The shelter often has many more cats and kittens than dogs. Founder of FourPaws, Merinda Brits said people often don’t adopt cats because of the misconception that cats are not as affectionate as dogs.

“People want a cat to run up to them like a dog and wag its tail but I don’t think you can compare two totally different species,” she said.

“Cats are just as affectionate as dogs but they show their affection in different ways.”

Sacha Fraser of FourPaws said the shelter currently has three beautiful six-week old kittens who are eager to find their forever homes. For adoption inquiries contact Fraser. Details: 083 377 3219, sacha@4ourpaws.org.za
