Cops on high alert for Heritage Day

DOUGLASDALE - Following a directive from the South African national police, Douglasdale police will be on high alert this Heritage Day.

According to Warrant Officer Balan Muthan, head of communications for the Douglasdale police, a directive has been issued to all police stations nationwide, after several threats of violent protest were received by the national police division.

Muthan said the threats of protest were mainly related to the conflict in the Middle East. He said the Douglasdale police would be on the lookout and were prepared to act in the event that any of the threats materialised. “South Africa, as we know, has a diverse population and all inhabitants should celebrate Heritage Day as it is entrenched in the constitution,” Muthan said. “No one should violate anyone else’s personal beliefs and culture nor their personal security.”
