Theft-out-of-motor-vehicles up in Douglasdale

FOURWAYS - The local crime statistics have been released following the announcement of the national crime statistics on 19 September.

Fourways is policed by four different policing sectors. Douglasdale Police Station polices the biggest section. In the crime statistics for the Douglasdale Police Station, there was a substantial increase in incidents of theft-out-of-motor-vehicles over a 10-year-period, from 366 incidents in the 2004/5 financial year to 862 incidents in 2013/14.

Drug-related crimes also increased from 56 incidents in 2004/5 to 286 in 2013/14. Kidnapping also increased from one in 2004/5 to nine in 2013/14.

Decreases in crimes were seen in murder (from 26 incidents in the 2004/5 financial year to 14 in 2013/14), sexual crimes (which decrease from 81 incidents in 2004/5 or 63 in 2013/14) ad culpable homicide (30 incidents in 2004/5 to 14 in 2013/14).

Burglaries in residential and non-residential premises also saw a decrease over a 10-year period. Burglaries in non residential premises saw a decrease from 1 018 in 2004/5 to 724 in 2013/14.

In the Sandton policing precinct, which polices Sunninghill and Paulshof in Fourways Review’s distribution area, saw a decrease in murder, sexual crimes and culpable homicide. Increases were seen  in kidnapping, assault and theft-out-of-motor-vehicles.

Midrand Police Station saw increases in murder, sexual crimes and driving under the influence of alcohol. There were decreases in common assault, theft of motor vehicles and motorcycles and assault with the intention to commit grievous bodily harm.

Diepsloot Police Station did not provide a range over a 10- or five-year period but rather since he 2010/11 financial year. Assault with the intention to inflict grievous bodily harm saw an increase.
