Cycle for huskies and border collies

FOURWAYS- The Border Collie Rescue, Husky Rescue and Barking Army are urging members of the community participate in the Momentum 94.7 Cycle Challenge and ride on behalf of their foundations.

All proceeds raised will go to the rehabilitation of abused border collies and huskies. The foundations began in 1997; they are breed-specific and each foundation has trainers, owners and facilitators who are extremely knowledgeable.

According to Sarah Pattison-Emms, a member of the Border Collie Rescue, the foundation provides owners with education on how to care for their dogs. The foundation also raises money for sterilisations and vaccinations.

“The foundation is looking for both men and women to cycle on behalf of us, so we can raise money for this great cause,” said Pattison-Emms. She added there are over 130 border collies and huskies registered at the foundations, including her own dog.

Those interested in cycling for the foundations will incur a fee of R2 500, which will include group training at The Cradle, a team cycle jersey, and access to their hospitality tent, as well as prizes to be given to the top winners and those who raise the most money.

Pattison-Emms added that larger breeds, like border collies and huskies, are often over-looked and are unlikely to get adopted in Johannesburg, as smaller dogs are

wanted due to space issues.

The Border Collie Rescue, Husky Rescue and Barking Army seek to eradicate the number of stray dogs through the cycle challenge and raise enough money to

fund vaccinations and sterilisations, as well as find homes for these unwanted dogs.
