The search is on for a trend-setting chef

JOBURG - South African student and professional chefs are challenged to compete to be the next McCain Trendsetter.

The McCain Foods Tribute to Good Taste is the frozen food group’s annual cooking competition. The company is looking for a trendsetter who is talented, tenacious and tasteful with a passion for setting trends in the food industry.

Entrants must develop a main course dish which includes a potato and vegetable product from the approved list which can be found on the McCain website.

Entrants will need to submit their recipe with an explanation of the inspiration behind the recipe and relevant accompanying photographs. The dish must incorporate the entrant’s take on the upcoming global trend in the food service industry. The dish should exude quality and freshness, be nutritious, convenient to prepare, appealing to the eye and delectable to the palette.

There is a R10 000 cash prize for Top Student and R15 000 in cash in the professional chef category. Four finalists in each category will be selected by virtue of their entries to compete in the final cook-off at Infochef 2014 at the Nasrec Johannesburg Expo Centre on 2 October. Entries must reach the South african Chefs Association by midnight on 29 August and may be submitted online, by fax or email.
