Less traffic congestion for Broadacres

BROADACRES - Residents and motorists can soon look forward to a completed intersection at Cedar Road, Cedar Boulevard and Lombardy Road.

Ward councillor for Ward 96, Matome Mafokwane explained that the construction at the intersection has caused motorists’ tempers to flare and has been an inconvenience. Mafokwane explained that the intersection was part of developer, Calgo M3’s contribution to the infrastructure of the Broadacres area. “I am very thankful to the developers for the upgrade to the intersection and would like the residents to treasure this intersection as an asset,” he said. “This intersection will aid with traffic congestion and will hopefully reduce accidents. It is a very beautiful intersection.”

Mafokwane said that the intersection should be complete by the end of August and thanked the residents and motorists for their patience during the construction. He encouraged residents to start community-driven initiatives to beautify the pavements and verges around the intersection. “I would like residents to take a proactive role with the intersection,” Mafokwane said. “They can make it what they want it to be.” Mafokwane mentioned that Cedar Road had been earmarked for development by Steyn City and the Gauteng Department of Roads and Transport, since it is one of the roads that alleviate traffic from the highway. According to Mafokwane the long-term plan for Cedar Road is that it will be upgraded from Life Hospital to the turn off for Runnymead Road in Chartwell.
