Lighting up the night sky in Beverley

BEVERLEY - Beverley resident, David Foley rejoiced after a year-long challenge to get the streetlights on his street switched on.

The streetlights on Mulbarton Road in Beverley were installed in June last year but were non-operational. Foley said that he went from “pillar to post” to try to get them switched on. Foley believes that the illumination from the streetlights will make the area a safer place for residents and pedestrians as Mulbarton Road is usually very dark. “I was almost going to senior level to get this done,” Foley said. “A special thanks must go out to Emmanuel Matumba and Theo Lutshaba from City Power and Awie Barnard from Eskom.”

The streetlights were finally deemed operational on 18 July, and Foley said that cheers could be heard from residents as night fell and their street was illuminated.
