Steyn City helps neighbours

DIEPSLOOT - On 18 July Steyn City Properties decided to help their neighbouring community, Diepsloot.

The property group as well as their contractors and a group of volunteers which included a team of scouts, united for the upliftment project.

In line with the wish list of three schools in Diepsloot, Steyn City’s Mandela Day team embarked on a mission to transform the school grounds which were litter strewn and unutilised into a facility that the school children could use.

The beneficiaries were Diepsloot Primary 4, Diepsloot Secondary 3 and Sunrise Secondary 4. Volunteers were broken up into three groups to not only tackle the litter but also clear, mark and set up sports facilities in each of the schools to make sure the children had a nice surprise waiting for them upon their return from the mid-year break.

Volunteers at Diepsloot Primary 4 worked beyond the allocated 67 minutes, clearing and setting up the area for a netball court which was then equipped with portable nets which will allow school staff to store them when not in use to prevent theft or damage.

Diepsloot Secondary 3 and Sunrise Secondary 4 each received a soccer pitch.

Mrs South Africa finalist and Cedar Lakes resident, Cathy Heaton was also in attendance to not only kick off the event by blowing the air-horn, but also to roll up her sleeves and get dirty.
