Persistence and community engagement to do the job

FOURWAYS – Candice James, the DA’s candidate for councillor for Ward 112 believes her persistence and can-do attitude to solve problems will stand her in good stead with Ward 112’s residents.

James said, “Ward 112 is a vibrant and fast-growing community. This has created an opportunity for a hands-on, community-focused councillor to make a real difference to the lives of the people residing here. There are a number of issues that can be quickly attended to with a proactive approach.”

In the run-up to the by-election, James has already seen some problem areas to tackle in the ward, including roads, properties that weren’t maintained with dumping, as well as parks and verges in need of attention. “Development too has brought with it a unique set of challenges that a quick response and extensive community engagement can address,” said James.

Engaging with people, coupled with hard work is how she plans to enhance the ward, and she said she had already started to build relationships with many of the residents’ associations and residents in Ward 112. “I think the greatest need today is for people to feel that they will be heard – and I will try my very best to hear everyone and try solve the problems where I can,” she said.

James is not new to working with residents, ratepayers or city council. She has been the chairperson of Barbeque Downs Residents’ Association since 2011, and was a member of Ward 93 committee. She said she had already established connections with many Region A officials.

“So far I have had an overwhelmingly positive response, not only from my community but also from Ward 112,” said James.

She said helping the community was close to her heart and some of her community outreach successes with Barbeque Downs Residents’ Association and Ward 93 included raising funds for various charities in Ivory Park, Kaalfontein and Diepsloot. She said through her swim school, she helped to teach Ivory Park pupils to swim and is registering a non-profit organisation to reach more children.

“I recognise that it is a privilege to serve the community, so for the foreseeable future, that is my primary goal. I am a perfectionist, so my focus for the moment once elected is to do the best job I can for the residents of Ward 112,” said James.
