Beauty transforms Soweto

SOWETO- Cedar Lakes beauty and Mrs South Africa finalist, Cathy Heaton flexed her green fingers in Kliptown, Soweto.

Heaton joined South African author, Stephen van Basten to transform the pavements in Kliptown into lush vegetable gardens.

The concept manifested itself from work that Van Basten had done with non-governmental organisation Taursrac. During the work, Van Basten ascertained that “Soweto needs carrots not grass”.

The Garden Shop in Broadacres sponsored spades, forks, fertiliser and seeds, and Heaton and Van Basten used the tools to knuckle down to some serious gardening.

Heaton was also involved in the Donate a Scarf and Beanie campaign which Kliptown residents enthusiastically received.
