Mr Pre-teen has big plans

LONEHILL - Jaden van der Merwe Robinson (11) of Lonehill has been crowned Mr Pre-teen South Africa 2014.

The pageant took place during the first week of May at the ACCP hall in Pretoria. Robinson was a newcomer to the world of pageantry but decided to compete because he felt that Mr Pre-teen was a pageant with a difference. “The title is not all about glitz and glamour but about getting your hands dirty and reaching out,” he said. Robinson is a keen performer and a regular face at local Eistedfodd competitions. He is also interested in sport and is the current South African judo champion for his age group and plays rugby for the Pirates Rugby Club.

Robinson is passionate about books and reading and his first project of the year will be the launch of mobile libraries for underprivileged schools. The project, which he is doing in conjunction with his school Leeuwenhof Akademie, will commence on 25 June. Second-hand and new books, which were donated by the school’s pupils, will be handed out to deserving beneficiaries. Robinson has also launched a Winter Warmer campaign where blankets and hot meals will be distributed to less fortunate members of the community.
