Creatures, frights and delights in Fourways

FOURWAYS - From holding a baby nile crocodile to zip-lining over snapping crocodiles, the Fourways Review team was in for an adventure at Croc City.

On what felt like an escape from the city, Croc City just off Cedar Road, offers something unique to city dwellers and out-of-towners.

The name is a dead-giveaway that crocodiles are the star of the show, but the brave can take a walk on the wild side and view other creatures.

Visitors have the opportunity to hold a baby nile crocodile – we held Snappy and he was a friendly fellow to our delight – get personal with Charlie the six-year-old corn snake. Charlie has a personality that makes him seem frightening, but actually he just likes to flick his tongue around and give your neck a hug.

Then there is Rosy, a 20kg python that will see you either running away or shakily hold on to the creature, or hold a tarantula in your hands.

After getting personal with some of the creatures, there is ample opportunity to gawk at even scarier snakes and spiders that are safely locked behind glass. These include gaboon vipers, black mambas, rinkhals and puff adders.

After conquering your fears you can head outside and take part in the drawcard of Croc City, the brand new Africa FlyOver. This is South Africa’s first zipline adventure over three crocodile enclosures.

Equipped with the latest standards in safety, the 150m zipline is an adrenaline rush aimed at beginners..

Anton Lotter, owner of Croc City said, “The incredibly entertaining experience begins with a brief safety and orientation session, and is led by highly trained guides. Prepare to experience CrocCity from a viewpoint previously reserved for our feathered friends.”

After getting to know the crocs from above, full-time tour guide and wrangler at Croc City, Brendan Schaper is on hand to give you a tour through the enclosures.

To cap it off, those with adventurous taste buds can grab a pizza topped with a little crocodile meat after enjoying Fourways’ quirky creature venue.
