An APPetite for technology

KYALAMI - Forget beer delivering drones, Fourways and Midrand is pushing boundaries when it comes to ordering food.

From Broadacres to Kyalami there is a new method for ordering takeaways from a favourite restaurant or fast food outlet.

Called Appetite, the app for iOS and Android devices allows users to browse restaurants and their menus on a smartphone or tablet.

Users can then select a food item they want, add comments such as to add extra cheese or leave out onions, and submit their order.

Appetite then sends the information directly to the desired restaurant where the order is printed at the order counter, and slipped into the chef’s order queue.

The app even notifies the user that the order was received and when it will be ready for collection or delivery, if the specific restaurant offers a delivery service.

A order number is also received, so the user can check the progress of their order.

The app also allows for a secure, authenticated payment option, downloading the app is free, and using the app and payment via the app is also at no additional charge.

“Ordering takeaways for collection or delivery is a time-consuming and often difficult process,” said Chris Davis, who heads Appetite.

“Our app means you always have the menu in front of you and you don’t get orders mixed up. It makes it very easy to order for lots of different people like when you have guests over, from lots of different restaurants or fast food outlets, and you don’t have to wait to get through on the phone.”

After entering basic details such as the user’s name, home or work address address, the user can browse restaurants on the Appetite grid close to their home.

Appetite was founded in October last year and currently includes 55 restaurants.

If a favourite restaurant is not listed, a notification is sent to Appetite, and Davis and his team will try include that restaurant.

Davis added that development of the app was ongoing and that his development team were adding new features as requested by users.
