While over 1000 paddlers took on the three-day Dusi river race, those who finished in the top 150 boats qualified to take on the Non-Stop Dusi challenge on 25 February.

While some of the traditional Dusi route is cut from the gruelling non-stop course, the task of paddling and running from Pietermaritzburg to Durban in one day is a treacherous one nonetheless.

Participants were required to be completely self-sufficient and, with only the help of their seconders, had to ensure they kept themselves hydrated and nourished throughout.

Father and son team Malcolm and Kelvin Byres were thrilled with their family victory finishing 63rd overall as the 43rd double, in a time of 11:43:00.

Gavin Morrow from Fourways and his brother Ian made the grueling paddle with the father and son team and celebrated in the victory of being the 44th double over the finish line.
