FourPaws helps injured animals

FOURWAYS- FourPaws animal shelter outside Diepsloot is dealing with two difficult rescue cases.

The first case is a one-eyed puppy which was found in Diepsloot. Founder of FourPaws, Merinda Brits, explained that the puppy had been bitten by another dog, quite a while before inspectors from the shelter found him.

“The eye was badly damaged and infected so the veterinarian had no choice but to remove it,” Brits said.

Fortunately the puppy is now recovering well but FourPaws is appealing to the public to help them with his medical bills which are very high.

The second case is a feral cat colony in the West Rand which is under threat. Brits explained that a few years ago the animal shelter sterilised a feral colony living in a cemetery in the West Rand.

“They were being fed by a kind lady and lived quite happily there, until recently when she found some of the cats being brutally killed, with pieces of them lying around the cemetery,” Brits said.

According to Brits they are not sure if this was caused by humans or dogs in the area but they are now in the process of trapping the remaining cats and taking them to the shelter where they will be safe.
