Gautrain launches one-night only service

JOBURG - Gautrain, in conjunction will Primedia, will launch 'Gauteng's big night out', a service that will see Gautrain's trains and shuttle buses operating until half-an-hour after midnight on 1 March.

This will mean that commuters will be able to use Gautrain services late into the night to attend various events, such as night walks at the Johannesburg Zoo. The services will only be available for one night only.

According to Errol Braithwaite, an executive at Bombela Concession, the planned event will be a way for the company to test its systems and operational protocols.

“There is also a view of possibly running late-night services on a more regular basis in future, but apart from that it is a wonderful way to promote…events in Gauteng,” he added.

While a decision needs to be made on this issue, Braithwaite said that if it did become a regular service, trains would be operational from all the stations.

The venues are:

  •  The Eminem Concert at Ellis Park. Gautrain buses provided from Park Station.
  •  The Santana Concert at FNB Stadium. Transfer to Metrorail at Park Station.
  •  Restaurants, shops and movies at Rosebank Mall and @The Zone as well as night walks at the Johannesburg Zoo (pre-booking essential). Gautrain buses to the zoo provided from Rosebank Station.
