Team Pepper tops favourite list

KYALAMI - The Pepper Racing team heads to Zwartkops on 1 March for the opening round of the Engen Volkswagen Cup with one goal: to win.

As was the case last year, there will be two VW Polos racing under the PG Auto Glass umbrella with Midrand resident Tasmin Pepper and Trevor Bland behind the wheel.

Last year Pepper made history by becoming the first woman to win a South African national championship saloon car race outright when she won at Phakisa in August. Early in the year she lost ground when she had a non-finish in Cape Town. Mechanical problems diminished her hopes in the last round of the year and she ended the season ninth in the championship.

“Last year was a good learning year with lots of ups and downs. Now I’m looking forward to the season and I’m hoping to get more wins behind my name and go for the championship,” said Pepper.

Shaun la Reservee, Craig Shorter and Anthony Lessing also make up the team.

After winning the ADAC Volkswagen Scirocco Junior Cup in Europe last year, Midrand’s Jordan Pepper will be vying for the overall crown this season. Unfortunately it also means he will not be seen in action on South African circuits.

Of course no team is functional without a full complement of technicians and Pepper Racing, overseen by former champion Iain Pepper, has Shane Mitchell, Gavin Watson and Dave Bland to keep the cars in the running for victory.
