Pupils become cancer aware

FOURWAYS- Kim Field Private Primary Education on Kingfisher Drive hosted a cancer awareness and fundraising campaign.

While February is mostly known for being the month of love because of Valentine’s Day, it is also world cancer awareness month.

Kim Field Private Primary Education took the opportunity to combine the two themes in a bid to teach pupils about supporting worthy causes such as CANSA. It was also an opportunity for pupils to learn that love can take on various forms including love for parents, siblings and family but also selfless love for fellow human beings.

Pupils were encouraged to learn about all aspects of cancer while doing fundraising and took the matter to heart. Among the 34 pupils attending the school they managed to raise a considerable amount of money for CANSA. As a reward for the pupils’ hard work they were allowed to wear civvies for Valentine’s Day. Again, the pupils showed their solidarity with CANSA by each wearing at least one item of pink clothing.

Salome Smith-Taljaard, project manager of business development for CANSA, visited the school to receive the funds that were raised. While there she took the opportunity to give an informative talk to the pupils about cancer and cancer awareness. Pupils of Kim Field Private Primary Education now have a far better understanding of cancer, the likely causes, as well as the progress being made in the way of cancer research.
