Diepsloot students do community proud

DIEPSLOOT- With the help of the Edu Fun organisation, 24 matriculants from Diepsloot Combined School have become trailblazers for their community by enrolling at tertiary institutions this year.

The Edu Fun organisation, which was formed in 2003, trains teachers in Diepsloot, runs school uniform mending sessions with the community, offers free eye tests by their health group, and facilitates further education for school leavers.

Edu Fun’s further education project was set up last year to mark 10 years of working with the disadvantaged in Diepsloot. In 2013 there were three school leavers who decided to pursue tertiary education but this year there were 24.

Of the two dozen matriculants from Diepsloot Combined School who have registered at the Midrand Graduate Institute, Tshwane University of Technology or the University of Johannesburg, only a handful have received bursaries.

The Edu Fun team is now appealing to companies and individual sponsors for help on the behalf of these students.

The team has already received some welcome support from Mr Price’s Red Cap Foundation which has donated R10 000 worth of stock to the students.

For more information on the foundation or to find out how to contribute to the Diepsloot students contact Edu Fun.
