A walk for love

MIDRAND - February is the month of love, and a Valentine's-themed walk for charity fittingly marked the month with man's best friend.

Animal lovers came out in numbers to support the President Park-based Kitty and Puppy Haven and the Highveld Horse Care Unit in dog walk around Kyalami.

Young and old, big dogs and small, many community members showed support for the two charities while taking advantage of the warm summer morning.

Dogs and their owners enjoyed the exercise, and many sported Valentine’s Day colours while they took a fun stroll around Kyalami.

There was an option to walk the 2.5km or 5km walk, with water points for the thirsty walkers. Walkers paid R30 each which went to the charities, but dogs walked for free.

The day raised R1 830 for each charity.

One the administrators of the Kitty and Puppy Haven Facebook page posted the following comment after the walk, “Great job and we hope to grow in numbers and fun walks. Thank you to the volunteers that turned up to assist with registrations and marshalling, we can’t do this without all of you!” After the walk, the dogs and their walkers enjoyed much-needed refreshments in the courtyard of the South African Lipizzaner Centre.
