Fire may have caused plane crash

LANSERIA- The case of a light aircraft that crashed during the heavy rains on Monday morning is being investigated further to determine the cause of the crash.

According to The Citizen an investigation is being conducted by the Civil Aviation Authority because the aircraft allegedly burst into flames while attempting to land during heavy rains.

Airport spokesperson Claudette Vianello said officials speculated the crash had occurred as a result of the heavy rain in the area yesterday.

Yet the Aviation Safety Network believes that the aircraft was actually disabled by a fire.

Eyewitnesses to the crash claimed to have seen smoke coming from the plane before it crashed.

Twenty-one people were on board the plane at the time of the crash with three confirmed fatalities.
