Douglasdale police set the record straight

MAGALIESSIG- The Douglasdale police wish to set the record straight involving a case of two men in possession of suspected stolen letters.

Community members and a national radio station wanted answers from the Douglasdale police as to why they didn’t respond to a call from security personnel at Montecasino who suspected the two men of being in possession of a stolen car and stolen letters.

Constable Mack Dlodlo said Douglasdale police did receive a call from Montecasino regarding two suspects who had a packet of letters in their possession, and officers on the scene brought the two suspects to the station for questioning.

At the station the men’s vehicle was checked and found to have the correct number plates. The driver’s details were also in order.

The two suspects were questioned and the driver of the vehicle was found to be in possession of a pay slip from the post office which indicated that he was a post office employee, and therefore had reason to be in possession of the unopened letters.

As a precaution, police officers made copies of the driver’s licence, fingerprints were taken of both men and the unopened letters were confiscated for further investigation.

Constable Dlodlo said, “We have the names, numbers and addresses of the two gentlemen as well as the registration number of their vehicle should this case require any further investigation.”
